READING CULTURE

READING CULTURE

In the past

The most valued gift students preferred

Is the portable printed work comprising of pages

And consisting of organised knowledge called ‘Book’

Students prefer books to any other gifts

In that they knew the importance of knowledge

As the cornerstone of human accomplishments in life

They took reading seriously

Reading is something that deserves attention

For it’s a beneficial activity

Knowledge turns darkness to illumination

In those days, students travelled far

To obtain information materials

Many of which are now readily available on the internet and software

They devoted more time to gaining knowledge

Of academic subjects and other human fields

In a serene environment

Free of any distractions

They burnt candles at night to prepare well for school exams

Books develop human thoughts

They provide useful facts

And hold invaluable information, ideas and messages

Than any other materials on earth

Book exposes man to modernity

They are like everlasting records for coming generations

The more you read and re-read

The more your mind broadens

And enables you understand different concepts

Reading enhances the brain connectivity

It improves your comprehension and vocabularies

Reduces blood pressure and heart rate

Makes sleep easier

Improves memory

Many of the dullards and slow-learners

Do not take reading seriously

They’re not familiar with the contents of their books

This is why they couldn’t comprehend and assimilate easily

Reading enhances imagination and creativity

It allows you understand the world

From different perspectives

Above all, if you perform outstandingly

After proper reading

The knowledge gathered in books

Can catapult someone to great success and glory

Reading can uplift you to the climax

You can also become a pragmatic leader

In any field you’re

Anyone who passes through the school system

Without devoting their time to result-oriented studying

While in school, graduates

As an incompetent certificate holder

And they hardly contribute

To the growth of any organisations

They found themselves

How can they?

When the backbone of their certificate

Has gone missing
