POETRY OF VIRTUE
There has been an increasing wave of social vices in recent times. Restiveness, chaos, crisis, tragedy, and evil continue to spread like wild fire in these perilous times. A major cause of these vices is the drastic decline of the moral standards of individuals. Morally upright persons are righteous, as they uphold peace and harmony at home, in their community, and the society at large. Morally sound individuals will not perpetrate evil nor harm others.
The significance of moral uprightness cannot be over-emphasised as it brings about respectability, the establishment of good relationships, good attributes, dependability, and many more benefits to our society.
In the light of these, I have discovered that poetry can be used as a means to enlighten the people about good virtues, moral values, thinking and correctitude in order to revamp our society and ameliorate the troubles bedeviling mankind in contemporary times. To this end, I have a fresh idea which I refer to as “Poetry of Virtue”.
By definition, Poetry of Virtue is poetry which explores the themes of virtue, and teaches morals and good manners. It also educates readers about the consequences of engaging in ill-deeds and why they should shun vices, immoralities, indecencies and rather, adhere to high moral standards.
In other words, Poetry of Virtue conveys deep thoughts, life experiences and logical ideas in such a way that it vividly outlines the importance of upholding moral rectitude as against immoral deeds.
Poetry of Virtue also tries to unearth the roots of social ills and proffers logical solutions to them. The poems are intended for general readership as they shed light on moral qualities needed by everyone to attain nobility.
Furthermore, some of the poems centre on educating pupils on how to excel in their studies. Therefore, various educational institutions will find the poems useful, because they edify readers about the importance of good morals in creating a peaceful atmosphere within and without learning environments.
Two books have been published in the Poetry of Virtues series, namely: Poetry for the Rightful Thinkers and Poetry on Moral Values.
It is hoped that this contribution will be beneficial to the entire world. It is also my hope that Poetry of Virtues becomes a widely accepted subgenre of poetry across the world.
